Gladiator Special Edition DVD

Well, the so-called "Special Edition" DVD version of the movie Gladiator has now been released in the US. It apparently contains 17 minutes of extra footage which wasn't seen in the theaters. I'm wondering if it contains any behind-the-scenes footage of the business deal in which the producers purchased 5,000 acres of forest for the sole purpose of burning it down for our viewing pleasure. You know... because 2 hours of blood, dismemberment, murder and incest just isn't enough to get people in the doors these days.

I've got the temporary itinerary in place now, it's just the exact departure date that isn't exactly set yet. The points listed below are the airplane destinations. There'll be plenty of time to travel in each area by car and motorcycle. So anyway, here's how it looks right now:

NYC
Miami, Florida
Lima, Peru
Sao Paulo, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
London, England
Paris, France
Berlin, Germany
Bonn, Germany
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Budapest, Hungary

It's a one way ticket, baby!

I couldn't find a copy of "Leavin' on a jetplane", so...

Well, the title pretty much says it all. It was... interesting. I wonder if there's any left inside there and, if there is, will it take the short route and work its way out over time, or will it defy the laws of gravity and work its way up to eventually lodge in my brain?

Recent Burger King ad campaigns

Is it just me or has BK hired the absolute, hands-down worst ad agency in the world lately? First they came out with the guy in the fairy looking outfit sporting a serial-killer grinning face, which was spooky enough. I still shiver remembering the commercial where the guy opens his curtains in the morning and that evil looking clown / king / serial killer is standing out there grinning... I'm sorry, but if I opened my curtains and saw that thing standing out there I'd say hello with two rounds of 00 buckshot to its face.

Next we have some rejects from the gwar tour screaming nonsensically about greasy chicken fries. I'm sorry, but what the hell is that all about? And now they're pushing cellphone ringtones with the same music. If I hear that crap going off anywhere in the vicinity of my personal space, I'm going to have to start swinging.

I haven't eaten at BK (or micky d's, for that matter) in years, and it's safe to say that I ain't ever going to step foot in one again. Greasy fried junkfood garbage is bad enough, but this brilliantly lowest-common-denominator ad campaign seals the deal. It's a shining example of everything that's so terribly not right with the world.

Why do I have to log on...?

I know you've all seen those commercials on tv that say "find out more about our product, just log on to such and such website"...

Well, if you have to waste your precious time to make an account and actually Log On to their website to find out about a product which I have a sneeking suspicion you're not going to want anyway, then let them just keep their damn product...

Or, when they say "just click on such and such"...

Okay, well, let me try that... I open my web browser, and it opens to Google, which is set as my homepage, but I don't see the link they said to click on so, again, let them keep their damn product... Or did they actually mean type in such and such website instead of clicking on some non-existent link?

I love these stupid corporations and marketing companies that use a medium to spread their poisonous message, while having not even the most basic understanding of the medium itself.

Teen Killed Over Online Game Dispute

TAIPEI - The killing of a Taiwanese teenager in a brutal knife attack at an Internet cafe over a dispute involving the Blade&Sword Online computer game has raised concerns over violence on the normally tranquil Pacific island.

"(The assailant) didn't know the difference between reality and fantasy," lamented the Apple Daily, which splashed a graphic depiction of the assault across its front page Tuesday.

The local TVBS news station suggested the violence of the game played a role in the attack.

"In the bottom corner of the game, there's a sign that pops up and tells players to 'kill until your eyes are red,'" a TVBS commentator said. In Chinese culture, red eyes are associated with extreme anger, bordering on insanity.

Blade&Sword gamemaker, Pixel Studios of Beijing, was not immediately available to comment on the incident.

The dispute occurred after the 19-year old killed in the attack, Lee Hon-hui, used his character in the online game to slay an opposing player. Angry over being knocked out of the game, the alleged assailant left the Internet cafe and headed straight for a hardware store to buy a long machete-like knife, according to TVBS. He then allegedly returned and attacked Lee.

I just think "TVBS" is a very appropriate name for any television channel, especially a television news station.

Life in a college town

Well, there's been yet another accident outside my living room window, because stupid college kids playing stupid crap on their too-loud stereos and talking to their stupid friends on their stupid cellphones don't look where they're going while behind the wheel of two tons of rolling steel paid for by mom and dad. The sound of the crash was kind of cool though.
